An Ohio mother was arrested Monday for running a Dee Dee Blanchard-like grift where she raked in thousands of dollars after pretending her daughter had cancer.
Pamela Reed, 41, is accused of lying to friends and family for years about the health of her 7-year-old daughter, whom she publicly impersonated on the internet as a blind and sick child suffering from various medical anomalies, including acute myeloid leukemia and seizures normal
Reed admitted to even shaving his young son’s head to sell the plot, police said.
Community members generously “participated in fundraising efforts and have made financial contributions to help the family offset medical costs,” the Noble County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The crazy scheme failed last week after an elementary school nurse discovered the little girl was not blind in her right eye as her mother claimed, an arrest affidavit shows.

Reed previously told nurses that her daughter – identified as AR in the records – would have a port implanted in the future for her cancer treatment, which caused the girl to miss more than 280 hours of school in 2023-2024 already, the documents state.
The nurse contacted AR’s provider, who confirmed her suspicions: “AR does not have cancer or leukemia, and she has never had cancer or leukemia.”
Snow’s document that Reed gave the school about AR’s alleged cancer was false, the doctor insisted.

Reed later admitted to falsifying the paperwork, as well as repackaged the prescription to make it look like it was a cancer treatment drug and fed him AR seizure medication he didn’t need.
When questioned by police, Reed initially tried to lie before admitting he had pulled the trick “because he liked the support he got as a result,” the affidavit said.
Reed has been routinely posting about AR-designed health flights on a page dedicated to her scheme since October 2017, when the girl was just 20 months old.

At the time, Reed claimed that AR suffered from Severe Aplastic Anemia, a disease in which the bone marrow does not produce enough blood cells for the body, although it is unclear whether that disease was also fabricated.
On the page, he has shared several links to online fundraisers over the years – only some of which have been released – that generated thousands of dollars that Reed allegedly planted directly into his own pocket.
One organization reported they gave Reed’s family about $8,000 to help with cancer treatment expenses, police said.

Just two days before his arrest, Reed claimed on Facebook that AR’s health was deteriorating.
“When they told us this was going to be the biggest fight yet, we thought we were ready, but nothing prepares parents to see anything like this…Our hearts are broken with every act, every tear and every night. we need to explain, why is she…because we don’t have that answer,” Reed wrote, claiming her daughter will begin 10 weeks of intense cancer treatment.
The scheme was so thick that Reed’s other daughter thought her sister “had cancer and was very ill,” according to records.

It is unclear if Reed’s husband was involved in the plot, but he was not home at the time of Reed’s arrest and their two children were removed from the home.
Reed was charged with theft by deception, a fourth-degree felony.
His bond was set at $50,000.
