The block is now lit.
An Oklahoma man made his street Christmas bright, decorating some of his homes with lights out of the kindness of his heart.
Last year, Stephen Dunkelberg started the tradition of putting up Christmas lights at his neighbor’s house on his Bixby, Okla., block.
Before he started the project, only two other houses on the street had lights, so he set about changing them.
“Every time I pull down my street, I’ll see my house, which was one of the first houses, and it’s all lit up, and then the whole street is kind of dark,” Dunkelberg, 31, told The Post. .
“Some of them only do a few [lights] in bushes and little things like that. And I just imagined in my head if every house had Christmas lights on it, how cool it would be. And I started talking to the neighbors and they all thought it was a great idea too.
The Good Samaritan this year decorated 22 houses, including his home, on his street, Stadium Road, with special lights that he hung for free.

Dunkelberg in the past owned a landscaping business, so had plenty of extra lights to spare.
“In Oklahoma, we don’t get much snow, so our winter work is Christmas lights,” he said. “So I have a lot of extra lights that I knew I wouldn’t use last season.”
Dunkelberg, who now works full-time as an accountant at an oil and gas company in Tulsa, worked on the project, which involved more than 2,100 bulbs, over two weekends.
The project took four full days. Stephen Dunkelberg
“It took me four full days,” he said.
As he mows, neighbors he has never met, will stop by and chat with him and bring him supplies.
“Some of them I have never spoken to before, others I have small talk with,” he said. “I’m definitely getting to know them all better by doing this.”

Last year, two houses missed the festival, but were decorated this year.
“There was one empty house and one person I couldn’t get hold of because he was out of town,” he said. “But since then, the empty house has been filled and I talked to the person who was out of town and he said he was OK with it.”
He plans to keep the tradition going and said he enjoys seeing his work color his neighborhood with holiday cheer.
“As long as I’m comfortable climbing ladders and roofs, I’ll be there to do it,” he said. “It doesn’t really get old, every day I go down the road, I enjoy seeing it every time.”
