Lose From Missouri

This week, the LSU Gymnastics team, ranked No. 3 nationally, hitting the road for their first road meeting of the season against No. 9 Missouri. Head coach Jay Clark emphasized that the team’s approach for the coming weeks remains consistent with their overall mindset throughout the season.

“The thought this week is the same as every week. Our goal is just to continue to improve our performance each week and maintain a mindset of progress, intensity and focus,” said Clark. “The most important thing is what happens next. Last Friday was a good confidence booster and our intention is to be the same team as we turn the page and move on to the next meeting. Missouri is a good team and we are excited to join their environment. We want to be as consistently excellent as possible, and that’s what we’re going to try and do.”

However, after a week marked by outstanding performances and one of the highest scores in the entire country, LSU faces a challenging matchup against Missouri.

Jay Clark’s Disappointment Over Loss

Freshman Konnor McClain earned another perfect score of 10 on balance beam, marking her second perfect performance in the past three weeks, while senior Kiya Johnson showed grit by claiming the all-around title. Despite this standout performance, the No. 3 LSU faced challenges throughout the meeting against No. 9 Missouri, ultimately failed with a score of 197.325-197.225 in Columbia, Missouri.

The loss drops LSU’s overall record to 4-2, with a 1-1 mark in SEC competition, while Missouri has a 5-1 overall record and 2-1 in conference play. Expressing frustration, LSU coach Jay Clark labeled the performance “unacceptable,” particularly noting the team’s strong start on bars followed by a struggle to land routines throughout the rest of the competition, as reported by NOLA.
