The Nashville active shooter was at a private catholic school called Covenant School. While Johnson’s children do not attend the private Catholic school. They are close enough to have their school closed.

The former Olympian took to Instagram Stories to express her fear and mixed emotions as she waited for her children to be released from curfew. He expressed gratitude when his children took him home in his arms.

“I couldn’t hold my breath since reading the news and getting a call from our school that they were also locked up because of the news. Shaking. Crying. broken hearted. Terrible,” Johnson wrote.

“Our baby is now home with us. I feel lucky and blessed but still very sad. No parent or family should have to deal with this.”

The Dancing With The Stars contestant recounts what happened outside his home in Nashville.

“I have seen ambulances of children, countless police cars, buses of children being transported to safety, parents flying down the street honking their horns, people running in and out of churches and schools looking for their children. Today has changed me.”

The shocking scene led Johnson to share a prayer for the children who were shot for doing what they were supposed to be doing Monday through Friday, attending school, and being educated. And adults who choose the teaching profession or work in the school system in other capacities.

“So far; 3 children and 2 adults have died,” he wrote. “Praying for the families whose babies didn’t come home from school today and the families who lost a part of themselves,” continued the medal winner.

“I also pray for the children and adults who may have witnessed, firsthand, the acts of violence committed today: Jesus, please come.”

The now-deceased shooter, identified as Audrey Hale (who identified as transgender and was named Aiden) shot into the school with a rifle.

Since the incident, videos have been released of the killer lurking in the alley ready to shoot innocent victims. By the end of their tirade, three 9-year-old children and three school staff members, a custodian, a teacher, and a headmaster had been killed. The massacre lasted 14 minutes before police entered the school and tackled the shooters, resulting in their deaths.

Johnson continues to post tributes to the victims and their families through his IG Stories. He shared the victim’s name; “evelyn, hallie, william, cynthia, katherine, mike” in one post. Authorities identified the victims as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and Williams Kinney, as well as custodian Mike Hill, 61, substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, 61, and principal Katherine Koonce, 60.

Johnson also shared an inspirational quote about Nashville. “A friend said it best…. Nashville is much more than a city, it’s a family. Everyone is separated by two degrees and knows each other, prays for each other, goes to church together.”
