Om Birla was born on 23 November 1962 (age: 58 years old, as of 2020) in Kota, Rajasthan, India. Since childhood, he was active in politics. In his childhood, he served as a volunteer of the Hindu Nationalist Organization, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He got his education from Govt. Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati College of Commerce, City and University, Ajmer, Rajasthan. He holds a master’s degree in Commerce.

Career
In 1987, he became the district President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). In 1991, he was appointed as the state Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha President. In 1997, he became the National Vice President of BJYM. In 2003, he was elected to the Rajasthan State Legislative Assembly for the first time from Kota Selatan constituency. He also served as the Minister of State (MoS) for parliamentary affairs for the Rajasthan government for four years between 2004 and 2008.
In 2008, he was re-elected to the council from the same constituency. In 2013, he was again elected to the council for the third time. In 2014, he contested the Lok Sabha elections and won the election from the Kota South constituency defeating Ijyaraj Singh of the Indian National Congress who belonged to the Kota Royal family. During his first term as a Member of Parliament, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Energy and a member of the Petitions Committee and Consultation Committee for the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. In 2019, he was again elected to the Lok Sabha and appointed as the 17th Lok Sabha Speaker.
