A Palestinian-led activist group advertised a rally in New York City for Gaza to “defend the heroic Palestinian resistance” and “honor the martyrs” on the same day Hamas attacked Israel and killed hundreds of innocent civilians.
Within Our Lifetime organized an “emergency rally” for the Gaza Strip on Oct. 9, just two days after a deadly terrorist attack in Israel.
On the day of the attack, they called on protesters to “take to the streets.”
“It’s all on Monday … as we take to the streets to defend the heroic Palestinian resistance that is rewriting history before our eyes, uplifting our people in Gaza and honoring the Palestinian martyrs,” the organization wrote in a social media post sharing details of the event. . .
Some commented on the post to question the band’s choice of words.
“How about today being heroic?” one replied below the post.
“Is kidnapping a child heroic resistance?” another questioned.

Nerdeen Kiswani, chairman and co-founder of Within Our Lifetime, has repeatedly argued that Palestinians have the right to defend and liberate Palestine “by any means necessary.”
Although the organization did not specifically mention Hamas, Kiswani called the October 7 attack a “heroic campaign” as well as a “psychological and tactical victory for the Palestinian resistance.”
He seemed to defend the militants’ slaughter of over 1,400 people and their abduction of another 200 by claiming that Israel was doing the same to Palestinians.
“For those who question the tactics of the Palestinian resistance, it is important to remember that killing and hostage-taking are very common Israeli tactics and don’t listen to me and we never hear about them in the media,” Kiswani said.

Kiswani and his group were behind Saturday’s “Flood Brooklyn for Palestine” rally in Bay Ridge where protesters took over the streets and some clashed with police, resulting in 19 arrests.
“Some protesters in the crowd chose to act aggressively and aggressively. Officers were shoved, shoved, and beaten by some protesters in the post-LRAD crowd [long-range acoustic device] device was used,” the NYPD said in a statement.
“Officers were hit with flying debris including eggs, fireworks, and bottles,” the statement said. “Officers responded to this disruptive behavior and attempted to restore order by arresting those responsible for these actions.”
Demonstrators are calling for an end to the “genocide” of Palestinians and an end to the Israeli blockade and occupation.
“We will liberate Palestine in our lifetime!” the crowd cried while holding signs that read, “Zionism is genocide” and “Rejection is allowed when people are occupied.”

Since Hamas’s October 7 invasion of Israel, Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 5,000 people in Gaza and displaced 1.4 million, according to United Nations and AP reports.
Kiswani, who founded Within Our Lifetime in 2015, made headlines in 2022 when he delivered a commencement speech at CUNY Law School slamming Zionist and US support for Israel.
Both the Palestinian activist and the group he founded have been condemned by the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish organization that tracks antisemitism, for anti-Zionist statements.
According to the ADL, Kiswani once posted a meme to social media suggesting Israel should be “wiped off the map.
