Paraguayan gov official duped into signing ‘proclamation’ with a fake country led by fugitive ‘guru’

A senior Paraguayan government official was tricked into signing a “proclamation” with representatives of a fictitious country led by a fugitive who claimed to have X-Ray vision and the ability to stop the sunrise.

Arnaldo Chamorro, chief of staff of Paraguay’s agriculture ministry, told reporters Thursday that he had been fired from his job after signing an October 16 memorandum with officials said to be from the “United States of Kailasa” – presented to him as a South American island.

Kailasa is the brainchild of a self-styled guru, Nithyananda Paramashivam, who is accused of being a fraudster wanted in India on a number of charges, including sexual assault and child abduction, according to the BBC.

He is believed to have fled the country in 2019 and his current whereabouts are unknown.

The document signed by both parties, complete with ministry letterhead and official seal, includes a salutation from Chamorro to “The Honorable Nithyananda Paramashivam, ruler of the United States of Kailasa”.

Chamorro also praised Paramashivam for his “contribution to Hinduism, humanity and the Republic of Paraguay”.

He further recommended that “the government of Paraguay actively explore diplomatic relations with the United States of Kailasa and support its admission as a sovereign state to various international organizations, including the United Nations,” according to a copy of the agreement. posted on social media.

“They are [the “officials”] came and expressed his desire to help Paraguay. They presented some projects, we listened to them and that was it,” Chamorro later said, admitting that he had been duped.

Chamorro said the fake official also met his minister Carlos Gimenez.

The agriculture ministry in a statement blamed “procedural errors” for the error and said the memorandum “cannot be considered official” or impose any obligations on the Paraguayan state.

On Kailasa’s website, the fictional country is described as “a revival of an ancient enlightened Hindu civilization that is being revived by Hindus migrating from all over the world”.

The website claims there are two billion Hindus as part of the country’s population, which has its own flag, central bank and passport.

Earlier this year, Kailasa representatives participated in two United Nations committee meetings in Geneva and also signed agreements with local leaders in the US and Canada, according to media reports.

In March, Newark City Hall in New Jersey admitted it had fallen victim to a similar scam when it signed a sister city agreement with Kailasa.

Paramashivam’s representative is believed to have also deceived several other officials in the South American country where he is wanted on various criminal charges.

A self-styled Paramashivam, famous for preaching on traditional Sanskrit texts and Hindu scriptures, including the Bhagavad Gita, he also makes many pseudoscientific and paranormal claims — such as having ESP and the ability to scan bodies (basically, X-ray vision).

According to the Daily Beast, he has a million followers and claims to be able to heal the blind — by opening the mystical third eye — and stop the sunrise.

Followers are reported to have said that he has performed blessings to help adults grow up to three inches taller.

Paramashivam was the subject of a Discovery+ 2022 documentary called “My Son Joined a Cult”, in which a former member declared, “This is a cult and I was duped.”

Other former members who appeared in the series claimed that their children were taken from them by gang leaders, and mothers can be seen standing outside what is said to be a Paramashivam ashram — screaming to be reunited with their children.
