Paris Hilton, an American media personality, recently opened up about her “threatening” meeting with director Harvey Weinstein. In an interview with Vogue UK released on February 23, the 42-year-old celebrity revealed an awkward encounter with a 70-year-old sex offender at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival when she was just 19:
“I’m scared and depressed.”
Paris Hilton was at the film festival to attend amfAR’s annual dinner, hosted by Harvey Weinstein that year. He mentioned meeting the director the day before the ceremony over lunch with a friend:
“He came up to the table and said, ‘Ah, you want to be an actor?'” ‘Yes, I really want to be in movies,’ I said. I was a teenager at the time, so he impressed me. ‘Oh my gosh, Harvey Weinstein is amazing!’ I called out, and he replied, ‘Well, we should meet. You’re welcome to come to my room and go over the screenplay’… and I didn’t want to leave, so I didn’t.”
Harvey Weinstein once accompanied Paris Hilton to the toilet.
In the same conversation, Paris Hilton revealed that the following evening, Harvey Weinstein reportedly followed her to the bathroom and asked:
“Do you want to be a celebrity?”
He went on to say:
“I went to the toilet, and he followed. He tried to unlock the door by punching and slamming it. And I refused to open it because I was thinking, ‘I’m in the room, why do you want to come in here?’ And I just refused to open it. And security came and literally dragged it, yelling, ‘It’s my celebration,’ and went crazy. It freaked me out and scared me.”
Before meeting Weinstein at the Cannes Film Festival, Hilton discussed the allegations about his sexual behavior, saying that everyone knew what he was like but spoke out against him:
“Yes, and only someone so powerful in Hollywood that everyone is afraid. I don’t want to say anything about it because I don’t want people to be mad at me for saying anything because it’s already known. He was exactly that, and people said, ‘OK, just close your eyes.'”
Hilton’s talk came the same day Harvey was sentenced to 16 years in prison on three counts of rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles. The former film director has already received a 23-year sentence in New York after being found guilty of r*pe and sexual assault during a judicial trial in the state in 2020. He was sentenced to serve in New York and Los Angeles. concurrent terms, which means he will be imprisoned for the rest of his life.
