During Teacher’s Week 2023 Wheel of Fortune, which was filmed in August but aired this week on ABC, fans noticed that icon Vanna White was missing from the letterboard. That’s because he’s recovering from COVID-19.
“You will notice Vanna is not here, and I have to say that Ms. White has tested positive for COVID. That’s the bad news,” said Sajak to the audience. “The good news is that I spoke to him a little while ago and he is fine. He has a little wheezing. But he tested positive and that’s the way it is, so he won’t be here with us this week.”
Although the Teacher’s Week episode could not be rescheduled because the teacher had already arrived in Los Angeles for filming, the production team was able to pause the filming of the regular episode to allow White time to recover, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Vanna White recently made some big cash when she finally signed a huge “Wheel of Fortune” contract worth millions of dollars after negotiations.
The 66-year-old signed a two-year contract extension to continue as co-host of the ABC game show through the 2025-26 season. The new contract covers two years of co-hosting with the show’s new host Ryan Seacrest, who will take over from longtime host Pat Sajak in the fall of 2024.
While the specifics of the contract are still under wraps, we know White is getting paid big after he previously spoke about his salary demands. Some reports state that there is a “significant raise” in the new deal, from the $3 million a year he has earned for nearly 2 decades. Surprisingly, he did not get a raise for 18 years.
Vanna White’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, is involved in what he describes as “very difficult negotiations” with Sony. But, it pays to have the best lawyer in town.

Vanna White recently opened up about her time on “Wheel of Fortune” with Pat Sajak, referring to themselves as a “team of sisters.”
“I think when Merv Griffin picked the two of us, 40 and 41 years ago, he saw something between us — a sibling-type relationship,” White told PEOPLE. “And I think that’s kind of what happened. He saw that we would get along, and we did. We were like a team of brothers.”
However, when reflecting on the end of their “Wheel of Fortune” run, White admitted it was “sad.” “I don’t want to think about that. I mean, we’re a team,” White said. “That’s sad. I don’t want to think about it.”
Continuing, the 66-year-old said, “I can’t imagine. Everyone attributes Wheel of Fortune to Pat and Vanna. We’re like Ken and Barbie, you know? We’ve been in everyone’s house for 40 years, so it’s weird if someone else is handing in my letter.”
