Pat Sajak Sets His Sights On Academia After Saying Goodbye To ‘Wheel Of Fortune’

Pat Sajak is already lining up for his next gig.

It has been confirmed that the 76-year-old will continue working as chairman of the Board of Trustees for a private Christian school in Michigan, just days after he announced his plans to retire from the “wonderful journey” of hosting “Wheel of Fortune.” Sajak initially served as vice chairman of the board from 2003 to 2019, when he was appointed chairman.

It is no longer news that Sajak will step down as the host of “Wheel of Fortune” after more than 40 years. What was reported was that the move would give him more time to focus on his role as chairman of the Hillsdale College Board of Trustees.

The conservative school confirmed the move in an emailed statement by spokeswoman Emily Stack Davis on Friday, June 16. Davis wrote:

“For decades, Pat Sajak has been a radio and television icon. We know he will be missed and congratulate him on his well-deserved retirement. Hillsdale College is fortunate to have a closer relationship with Mr. Sajak.”

“Since 2019, we have benefited from his wisdom, intellect and humor as chairman of the Hillsdale board of trustees. We look forward to continuing our important work together and what we are sure will be a bright future for Mr. Sajak and his family,” he said in a statement to USA TODAY.

This is not the first time Hillsdale College staff have praised Sajak. In 2019, when he was promoted to chairman, the academy’s President, Larry P. Arnn, noted that the father of two “was a man of calm and sound judgment, also possessed of a wicked intelligence.”

Arnn added that despite his “selfless man” and great fame, he was “not interested in celebrity.” The president went on to claim that Sajak was aware of the “purposes of the college and devoted himself to them.” Likewise, the television personality spoke about the promotion, stating:

“I’m in an industry where we’re always applauding each other for the different awards we win but this one is at the top of my list.”

While this was a step in the right direction, the veteran was surprised when he announced his retirement plans on June 13. He has taken to Twitter to state:

“Well, the time has come. I have decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been an interesting journey, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to all of you. (If nothing else, it will keep clickbait sites busy!).”

As The Blast observed, the tweet immediately caught people’s attention, and they began to respond. So far, it has received over 4k retweets, 56k likes and hundreds of replies, with many praising Sajak for giving them sweet and unforgettable memories of “Wheel of Fortune.” In the words of one disappointed fan:

“Wow – never thought this day would come even though logically it was inevitable. You, Vanna & the Wheel are an institution. It will be the end of an era.”

Daytime Emmy Award nominee May be replaced by Ryan Seacrest

The Blast previously reported that Seacrest was outdoing the potential host of “Wheel of Fortune.” According to the story, the “American Top 40” star’s hosting experience and extensive accomplishments, including several Emmy Award nominations for “American Idol,” made him the top choice for the popular game show.

Additionally, Seacrest’s six-year stint on “Live! with Kelly and Ryan” and his 15-year run at the helm of the annual “Dick Clark New Year’s Rockin’ Night” has prepared him well for opportunities behind the wheel. Even so, fans of the show have someone they think can top it off — Sajak’s daughter, Maggie Marie.

The 28-year-old has known the game show since his childhood and has worked as its social media reporter since 2021. For that, he has produced behind-the-scenes moments and interviews with contestants and celebrities.

Maggie also got a chance to change that letter when she joined Vanna White in 2019 when her dad had surgery and again in May 2023 during “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.”
