During a press conference, Kansas City Police Chief Graces spoke in detail about the shooting at the parade, noting that there are currently two armed suspects in custody.

“I am angry with what happened today. People who come to this festival should expect a safe environment,” said Graces. He revealed that there were still victims admitted to the hospital but stated that he did not believe any of the victims were children.

When asked if there were a lot of shooting scenes, Graves said, “That’s still an active thing. That’s a lot to talk about, as you know, the size of Union Station. I will tell you that we found the crime scene next door west of Union Station. As far as the front[the station]that is still under investigation.”

Graves adds, per Deadline, “We have crime scene investigators as well as detectives. We have a lot of our Assault Squad detectives and homicide detectives who are actually in uniform today working assignments, so not only do you have a uniformed presence immediately responding to the scene, rendering aid, running to the scene, you also have detectives immediately on the scene events that still exist and are actively working.”

According to the Fire Chief of the Kansas City Fire Department, Ross Grundyson, the number of shooting victims has increased to at least 22 people.

Grundyson said in a press conference “that a total of 22 victims were shot, one of them was fatal. We have eight with what we consider to be life-threatening patients, we have seven with life-threatening injuries, and we have six with minor injuries.”

He noted that people with life-threatening injuries were “transported to the hospital within 10 minutes, so [they] felt that the response was certainly adequate and appropriate.”
