The decade since McCartney ruled the world as a member of ‘The Fab Four’ has been kind to the 81-year-old former Beatle.

Following the dissolution of the biggest band in the 1960s, McCartney formed Wings with his then-wife Linda and made musical history with the band for decades to come. Since 1970, McCartney has also released solo records and has worked with numerous collaborators.

Now, he’s ready to talk about his vast library of lyrics!

On Tuesday, “McCartney: A Life In Lyrics” was announced. The “My Love” singer will discuss some of her favorite lyrical compositions on the podcast.

In 2021, McCartney collaborated with Paul Muldoon; McCartney spoke with Muldoon, a poet, in several sessions lasting hours. Muldoon and McCartney looked at the former Beatle’s lyrical treasures over a five-year period. According to The Guardian, the pair recorded 50 hours of conversation, discussing 154 songs; Muldoon and McCartney met 24 times.

At the start of the nearly two-minute trailer, Muldoon introduces himself by explaining that he is “a poet. A lover of lyric poetry and song lyrics.”

He continued, “Over the past few years, I’ve been lucky enough to spend time with one of the greatest songwriters of our time: Sir Paul McCartney. Together we worked on ‘The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present,’ which looked at more than 150 songs for McCartney’s songbook.”

“When we listened back to the tape, we realized there was something very special going on in this conversation,” the poet explains. “As we explore this journey in turn, it becomes clear how much of McCartney’s biography is, indeed, embedded in the lyrics,” Muldoon continued, “going back to his childhood in Liverpool. [England.]”

Listeners can also hear a bit of McCartney’s insight in the trailer. He explained at first, “I want to be someone who writes songs and I want to be someone whose life is in music.”

When discussing the book, McCartney was heard saying, “It’s like going back to an old photo album, looking back at work I hadn’t thought about in years.”

Muldoon goes on to introduce the podcast and describe it as “A master class, a memoir, [and] a reinvented journey with one of the most iconic figures in popular music.”

Listeners will be able to dive into the podcast this fall when it releases on September 20. According to The Music Universe, the podcast will be available on several platforms, but those who are Pushkin+ subscribers will have the complete collection of 24 episodes at once.

The outlet also revealed the episodes are split into two seasons, with the second season arriving early next year.

The first season featured a mix of songs from The Beatles, Wings, and McCartney’s solo careers, including “Here Today,” a song McCartney wrote about the death of his longtime bandmate and beloved friend, John Lennon.

Lennon was murdered outside his apartment in December 1980, and McCartney released the song on his 1982 LP, “Tug Of War.”
