Stanley was part of neighborhood bands Rainbow, Uncle Joe, and Post-War Baby Boom before joining Kiss. Later he joined Gene Simmon’s Vicious Lester ensemble. Later that year, in 1973, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley joined, and the trio was christened Kiss. Face makeup and performance costumes are well-known features of American rock ensembles. Breathing fire, spitting blood, burning instruments, shooting missiles, soaring percussion sets, and fireworks propelled the band to stardom in the mid to late 1970s.
Stanley and Simmons are the only surviving founding members, as the band’s makeup has changed several times over the years.
