Paula Abdul has spoken out about Nigel Lythgoe’s response to her sexual assault lawsuit, claiming that the “So You Think You Can Dance” judge is “victim shaming.”

Iconic singer Abdul broke his silence less than 24 hours after “American Idol” producer Lythgoe labeled his sexual assault allegations false and called him a “pathological liar.”
On March 5, Lythgoe issued a scathing response to Abdul’s allegations, along with private emails as proof of his innocence.
In his response to the former “SYTYCD” judge, Abdul said, through his attorney: “Mr. Lythgoe’s response to Ms. Abdul’s complaint was classic victim shaming. Mr. Lythgoe failed to appreciate that he held a position of authority over Ms. Abdul. He is the producer of ‘American Idol ‘ and ‘SYTYCD’ and he’s a talent. He’s got the cards for his career in his hands and he knows it.”
It continued, “Therefore, it is not surprising that Miss Abdul soothes his ego with a positive and seemingly adoring message. This is the defense that many women like Ms. Abdul are forced to take to deal with men who abuse their power.”

Lythgoe went on to claim that the singer has “a long history of telling wild stories that are untethered from reality and designed primarily to attract attention.”

To bolster his case, Lythgoe provided private emails he shared with Abdul after the alleged incident, emphasizing that he called her “adorable” at the time.
One of the emails, sent on September 12, 2014, read: “Hi love — thank you for this wonderful ‘gift’. I’m sorry for not calling me yesterday. Forever grateful to have you in my life! Love, love LOVE YOU! XO P.”
A second read, “Thank you for the beautiful flowers – they were lovely! But, I have to say the kicker was last night’s birthday card. I’m still buzzing! I really appreciate our friendship and can’t wait to launch our project.”
Lythgoe’s team added in the filing: “Lythgoe has been Abdul’s champion, support system, colleague, and professional collaborator, whose guidance and attention he sought and for whom he expressed love and adoration over and over publicly and privately over the same period. while Abdul now claims he was ‘abused’ by Lythgoe.”
