Paulina Porizkova Remembers The ‘First Time’ She Fell In Love

In a touching Instagram post on Thursday, Paulina shared her husband’s latest video. “This is when I fell in love,” he recalls. “It was 1984. I had just moved into a new apartment (after escaping a house fire that cost me all my possessions) and my new apartment was empty but for a bed, my cat and my new MTV.”

“It’s late at night. This video came up, and I was – blown away,” he wrote. “It was his eyes that stopped me first. Turquoise. Like the shallows of the Caribbean sea. But it was the smile, the little smile that made me flinch. He doesn’t look like he smiles much. He looked like an otherworldly creature, an alien, a foreboding angel, all angles and long limbs, like he had secret black wings folded under his raincoat.”

“But that smile, that little bit of an almost apologetic smile, the unsure man’s smile, that pierced me. I sat glued to the TV, hoping for more,” he added. “Little did I know then, that just a few months later, that smile would be mine. It will be for me. It will be mine for thirty years.”

She then contacted Ric directly, adding, “I still miss you. I still cry when I think of you. I still cry when I talk about you. I hope I always will.”

While some followers appreciated her vulnerable caption, others were confused. “But he didn’t appreciate you in his last years? And you really appreciate it,” commented one user. Paulina replied, “Things change. Love is not.”

“I was deeply hurt by his actions that came to light after his death – in addition to being thrown into an unexpected and horrible grief,” she wrote. “All of us who love him are still in the process of gathering ourselves from under his shadow, whether it’s a soft cooling shelter from the sun, or a cool dark place.”

“I cannot be pitied as a chaste wife- or reviled as a woman who leaves,” she added. “We all make mistakes. I am lucky to live and learn and become a better person. My husband is not so lucky.”

“For me the moral of the story is to love as much and as hard as possible, so when you have to leave this world, you will leave your loved ones with thousands of loving memories,” he concluded, reminding his fans, “I wrote about all this in my book. But it’s not a story. I am good at keeping other people’s secrets. I am uncensored only when it comes to my own thoughts and feelings.”

His new book, “No Filter,” hits shelves this November.
