Paulina Porizkova Reflects On Grief After Losing Friend To Pancreatic Cancer

Model Paulina Porizkova is no stranger to grief.

On August 23, 1989, she married The Cars frontman, Ric Ocasek. In May 2018, the “Anna” actress revealed that the former couple had separated. Less than a year later, she died suddenly after undergoing surgery before the divorce was finalized.

Paulina found out after his death that she and the two sons they shared had been disinherited from his will shortly before his death and their legal dispute with his estate did not end until 2021.

The author of “No Filter: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful” took to Instagram to share throwback photos while sharing a candid message with her followers about the stages of grief.

In a candid Instagram post about grief, Paulina shared a recent photo she took with Estée Lauder. “It’s been over three years, and the sadness still hits, sometimes in unexpected moments,” he admitted in the caption.

“You don’t just cry over the loss of someone you love. You also mourn the loss of a life you knew. The future you plan. And the people you have,” he explained. “‘Yes, you are also grieving over YOUR loss.”

“I haven’t grown into my new skin yet. Sometimes I feel like a shar-pei puppy, my skin is too big for me,” Paulina admits. “I miss and long for comfortable skin that fits all my life. So I have to keep growing to fill this new shape.”

“And growing, as you know, causes pain. It’s all part of grief,” he explained. “Growing into a new you, that might be bigger and stronger. But it takes time.”

Paulina admitted that she was also grieving the loss of her friend Erik Wiener, who recently died of pancreatic cancer.

In another Instagram post, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model revealed that her friend Erik Wiener has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. “He prepared this, the first Asbury Park Ted X talk, and persuaded me to be one of the speakers,” he wrote in the caption. “This is a clip from it. 2018. He was a staunch supporter and believed in my abilities when others had very little.”

She then explained that they first met at her best friend’s wedding, as he was the brother of her friend’s husband. She says they “clicked instantly,” adding, “Both Aries, we quickly found a mutual energy and passion bond.”

“I broke the heel of my high heels during training, and he accompanied me to find a cobbler to fix them. (His wife is ok!) There is no reason to do that, other than goodness,” he wrote.

“And this is Erik. Endless kindness. Generous to a fault,” he added. “Big-hearted and eager to make mistakes. A great cook. A great and devoted father and husband. The best brother.”

“Bad pancreatic cancer took him away from everyone who loved him yesterday. My last text from a few days ago was the only one that didn’t get a response,” he continued. “It’s ‘your love.’ But I think he knows that.”

“My heart goes out to his family and friends,” she concluded, adding, “Erik, I hope you can see the outpouring of love for you from all of us. Wherever you are, I hope you can feel it.”

Many fans took the time to send their condolences. “A beautiful tribute to your friend!” commented a fan. “I’m sorry for losing you.”
