Pedestrian mowed down by bus in front of horrified commuters at London’s Victoria Station

A pedestrian has been hit and killed by a bus in front of passengers during rush hour at one of London’s busiest stations.

Much of Victoria Station was cordoned off by police tape while a black tarp covered the actual scene.

Police cars, ambulances and fire engines were still at the scene more than two hours after the fatal accident involving double-decker bus No 13 at about 9am on Monday.

It is understood that the bus crashed into a shelter at the station.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead within half an hour of the accident while the bus driver was taken to hospital.

Aaliyah, 21, who works at Scribbles shop near the scene said: “I didn’t hear anything strange because it happened outside.

“I didn’t realize anything had happened until I saw the ambulance arrive and thought ‘Wow! That’s a lot’.

“It’s not unusual to see an ambulance around here, but the number is quite surprising. We couldn’t see anything because of our window display.”

Myra, who works at a nearby Superdrug store, said: “Customers have been coming in all morning asking us what has happened.

“They don’t understand how we can’t see anything, but we’re trying so we can’t look up. “It’s like they’re trying to hide it from us.”

When he heard that someone had been killed in the accident, he was shocked, adding: “We thought there was a fire because we saw fire engines.
