Pelosi suggests Putin is behind wave of anti-Israel protests in US

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may have quietly fueled the wave of anti-Israel protests sweeping the US.

The Democratic congressman from California – noting that he has anti-Israel protesters outside his home “all the time” – drew attention to how Putin has supported calls for a ceasefire as much as many of the protesters.

“Make no mistake, this is directly related to what he wants to see,” Pelosi told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“I think some of these protesters are spontaneous and organic and sincere. Some, I think, have something to do with Russia,” he claimed. “I think some funding needs to be investigated.”

But the 83-year-old cop downplayed the risks to President Biden in the general election, noting that many young people who are with him still care about LGBTQ issues, saving the planet and gun control.

“We will have a message of value for our country, and we will have the resources to get the job done,” he said.

Since the deadly October 7, 2023, surprise attack by Hamas on Israel, a split has emerged among Democrats over the war, with some progressives wanting Biden to support the Palestinians.

The death toll of Palestinians has passed 26,000, according to the latest figures from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry. More than 1,300 Israelis have been killed in the bloody October attacks and the ongoing fighting on the ground, according to the government.

Meanwhile, Pelosi also threw her weight behind Biden as she backed the Senate’s compromise border security package. While hoping for broader immigration reforms such as a path to citizenship and protections for Dreamers, he argued the deal was a step in the right direction.

“This legislation is a compromise. It is a negotiation,” he said. “Everyone does not have everything in their own way. And this is very important.”

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley recently blasted Donald Trump for mixing it up with Nancy Pelosi. Reuters

At one point, CNN host Dana Bash pressed the Golden State Democrat on the scandal in which former President Donald Trump mixed him up with his Republican rival Nikki Haley.

Pelosi largely sidestepped questions about Trump’s mental cognitive abilities. Both Trump and allies of President Biden have spoken to each other about the acumen of the two men.

“Anyone can mix up names. Seven times is quite a lot. But the fact is, he’s lying about the fact that he’s not going to send the National Guard to the Capitol,” Pelosi responded, drawing attention to Trump’s statement about the January 6 riots in 2021

Trump had said at a rally in New Hampshire that “Nikki Haley is in charge of security” during the riots. He is not.

When pressed further about Trump’s mental faculties, Pelosi again grumbled, still laying out policy contradictions.

At 81, Biden is the oldest president in US history and will be 86 at the end of a possible second term in office.

Trump, 77, will turn 81 by the time he serves a potential second term.
