Last year, Badgley spoke to Entertainment Tonight about “You” Season 4 after news broke that the show would be renewed for another season, where he said “the tone [for the upcoming season] are similar, but they change because there are different formats. We use different formats.
The “Gossip Girl” actress continued, “It’s almost like we switched genres a little bit. And I think it worked.”
The Netflix series is based on Caroline Kepnes’ book series, however, Badgley admits that not all of the shows that follow are the same as the novels.
“Nothing is the same and the writers of the book and the creators of the show, they always know to start from the same place, from the same point — Joe from the book — if you recreate it faithfully, it’s going to be hard to watch,” he said before saying more , “It was really hard to watch.”

The upcoming season will see the return of Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg and many suspect Tati Gabrielle will return as love interest Marienne Bellamy, who was introduced in Season 3. “There are also some other familiar faces that I think I can [say],” Badgley said when speaking to Entertainment Tonight, seemingly confirming Gabrielle’s return to the series.
