Person of interest sought after Texas teen Lizbeth Medina found dead in apartment

Texas police have released chilling images of a person of interest linked to the mysterious death of a 16-year-old Texas cheerleader who was found dead in her apartment.

The unidentified man, who was wearing a black “Volcom” sweatshirt and had a distinctive tattoo behind his right ear, was photographed running, according to surveillance photos.

He was also seen driving a silver Ford Taurus, with model years ranging from 2010 to 2018.

Lizbeth Medina was found unresponsive in the Edna apartment she shared with her mother, Jacqueline, on Dec. 5 after she didn’t show up to a Christmas parade earlier that evening.

Edna police did not specify the location of the suspect’s photo near Medina’s apartment.

The young Edna High School cheerleader, who her mother said was a “loving, kind and big-hearted” girl, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“I lost him. He was my world, my everything. Everywhere, everything I did was for him,” said his mother.

The circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death are still unclear.

“We understand the public wants information regarding the case, however, we must maintain the integrity of the investigation as our priority,” the department wrote in a post on Facebook.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is assisting Edna police “in what investigators believe to be a major homicide,” the department said earlier this week.

The autopsy report has not yet been released.

The exuberant mother of the teenager said when she found her daughter in the bathtub, she “realized she was gone.”

“No string drugs, nothing like that. My daughter was found in a way no mother should find their child,” said her mother, Jacqueline.

“Words cannot explain what I felt when I found my daughter in what she was. All I can say is that I hope with all my heart that there is justice for my daughter.”

Edna is home to about 6,000 people and is located about 100 miles southwest of Houston.

“We also understand that the community is concerned about the individual who is still free. Outside agencies are in the area and are working with Edna Pd to provide additional patrols,” the department wrote.

A vigil was held for Medina on Saturday at the Jackson County Courthouse, with attendees dressed in white in memory of the slain cheerleader.
