A Las Vegas woman undergoing in vitro fertilization is heartbroken after a CVS pharmacy accidentally gave her the abortion pill that claimed the lives of her unborn children.
Timika Thomas, a mother of four who previously had her fallopian tubes removed, remembers that she started having “very bad cramps” when she was given Misoprostol instead of the vaginal suppository prescribed by her doctor in 2019, she recently told the KLAS station.
“I started cramping really bad… My cramping went beyond that… It was extreme. It hurts,” Thomas said.
After taking two doses, the IVF patient examined the bottle he was given from a North Vegas pharmacy.
“The first thing I read was that it was used for abortion,” she added.
“They just killed my baby … Both of my babies, because I transferred two embryos.”
A Nevada TV station reported that it had obtained documents outlining that it was two technicians along with two pharmacists who were responsible for the fatal error.

It was shown that a technician misunderstood the generic name for the brand prescribed by Dr. Thomas and entered the wrong name into the prescription.
One pharmacist failed to detect the error and another did not advise Thomas when he retrieved the pills, according to KLAS.
“It is [the error] will be arrested because then they have to have the medicine in their hands,” said Thomas. “And they’ll say, ‘Oh, it’s Misoprostol or Cytotek, have you taken this before?’ And I would say, ‘No.’ “
After complaining to the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy, the two pharmacists face fines and the temporary loss of their licenses — which can be reinstated next year.
“It was human error,” one of the pharmacists testified. “It was just a human error, and I’m sorry.”
CVS was also fined the statutory maximum of $10,000 for the incident.
“We have apologized to our patients for the prescription incident that occurred in 2019 and have been working with the Nevada Board of Pharmacy on this matter,” CVS told the TV station in a statement.
“The health and well-being of our patients is our number one priority and we have comprehensive policies and procedures to support prescription safety. Prescribing errors are very rare, but when they do happen, we take steps to learn from them to continue to improve quality and patient safety.”

Now, four years later, the scar is still open for Thomas and his family.
“All I got was sorry,” said the grieving mother.
“It will never be good enough.”
