A Phoenix mother has been arrested for murder after her daughter was found dead in a dumpster on Christmas Eve.
Sophia Simmons, 38, was busted after police received a tip that she had put her daughter’s body in a dumpster after the child was allegedly brutally beaten to death.
A witness, who lives in New York, allegedly received a phone call from Simmons on Christmas Day and claimed the mother had confessed to “hitting her son and it went too far,” according to ABC 15.
The girl has not been named and is believed to be between five and seven years old. He was found on Sunday around 8pm in a bin in a storage container.
A witness went into the dumpster to find firewood when they noticed the lid of the container was not properly secured. When they looked inside, they found the child’s body and alerted a nearby security guard, who called the police.
Officers found the girl’s body with multiple injuries on her legs, arms and body. Investigators believe the wound is in some stages of healing and the girl has scars from a previous attack, ABC 15 reported.

The New York witness also revealed that Simmons had left the body after allegedly beating the child and when he returned, the girl was not breathing.
He stayed with the body for five days, the police report said, before taking it to the dump.
After obtaining a search warrant, police found evidence of someone trying to cover up the scene, reports ABC 15. Simmons was not home during the search.
Police traced his phone and found him in California on his way back to Arizona. He was arrested outside Phoenix and taken to police headquarters, local outlets reported.
Phone records also show the device was near a trash can around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
He has been jailed for first degree murder, child abuse, and tampering with evidence.
