One person is dead after a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Arkansas.
The single-engine plane, a Cirrus SR 22, crashed at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday, hitting the ground north of a building at the Little Rock airport.
No one was on board except the pilot. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.
The plane’s chassis was reduced to smoldering debris after eight fire engines responded to the scene
“It’s a loss,” said Little Rock Fire Department Chief Delphone Hubbard.
Officials have not yet released the victim’s name.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.

The airport was closed for an hour as responders contained the wreckage.
It was the second fatal accident at Clinton Airport in less than a year.
On February 22 last year, a plane carrying five Arkansas environmental workers crashed shortly after takeoff.
The plane crashed in a forest area and started a raging fire. All five on board were killed.
