A pilot died after crashing in the parking lot of a Texas shopping center on Tuesday, just meters from the front door of a popular restaurant.
The downed single-engine Mooney M20 caught fire just before 6 p.m. outside Mama’s Daughter’s Diner and Nail Addiction in the Midway Park neighborhood of Plano, a city 20 miles north of Dallas.
The plane did not land or hit anything when it crashed, but flames jumped onto a car parked nearby, Plano fire officials said. Luckily there was no one in the vehicle.

Only the pilot was on board, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed.
Air Park-Dallas Airport is less than half a mile from the crash site.
The plane had taken off from a single-runway airport shortly before the crash, sources told WFAA.
Witnesses said the plane nosed down sharply before plunging into the parking lot.
