Playboi Carti, a famous rapper, was recently arrested on suspicion of strangling his girlfriend after a fight over a paternity test. Carti’s partner was 14 weeks pregnant at the time of the incident, according to reports. The rapper faces aggravated assault charges.
According to the Daily Mail, the incident took place in December 2022. Carti reportedly grabbed her partner’s neck, making it difficult for her to breathe. He rejected it too. The woman’s name has not been released, but according to an arrest affidavit obtained by TMZ, she felt like she was going to die. Carti and the woman have been dating for about two years and have been living together since July last year.
According to Playboi Carti’s lawyer, the rapper’s charges will be dropped.
A witness, according to Carti’s pregnant girlfriend, tried to break up the fight. Carti hits him again as she runs to her car, trying to stop him from getting in. When he tried to call 911 using the car’s SOS button, the rapper allegedly slapped his palm over his lips. When the police arrived, they found that the woman had injuries to her neck, chest, and back. However, Playboi Carti’s lawyer, Brian Steel, has said that all the charges leveled against his client are false and that the case will be “dismissed without any prosecution or litigation.”
The rapper has previously been arrested.
In April 2020, Playboi Carti was arrested in Clayton County on gun and drug charges. He was stopped by the authorities because his Lamborghini had an expired tag. Officers found several packages of marijuana, a firearm, Xanax, codeine, and pills after searching his vehicle. Carti and another named Jaylan Tucker were arrested and booked into the Clayton County jail.
According to court documents, Carti was charged with possession of marijuana, improperly passing an emergency vehicle, and not having a current license plate sticker. The rapper was eventually released on bail, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
