Police dog finds missing child, 12, after tracking them for miles in freezing cold

A Massachusetts police dog tracked a missing child for miles in the cold – and eventually helped authorities reunite the pre-teens with their families.

The 12-year-old – who has not been publicly named – was reported missing after leaving their home around 8:30 Wednesday night, the Auburn Police Department said.

The K9, Biza, picked up the child’s scent and tracked him “for over two miles” to an area where evidence indicated the 12-year-old was not long ago, the department explained.

On Wednesday, temperatures in the Auburn area hovered around a high of 31 and a low of 23 degrees.

“Officers converged on this area and located the child shortly after. The children were reunited with their families and are safe,” the official statement said.

The department included a photo of Biza looking playful in the snow.

“We are proud of the hard work done by K9 Biza and are happy to report positive results!” the announcement ended.
