Pooping pigeon invasion: ‘Our town is being taken over!’

It’s quite poultry situation.

A town in south London is facing an onslaught of bird droppings caused by a “growing” influx of winged invaders for which officials have no answer.

“You walk around and they cough on you. All the babies crow, and then they can scout you,” Ashford business owner Vince Monticello told the South West News Service.

“Our town has been taken over by seagulls and pigeons.”

Ashford Borough Council has skated around the issue after walking back April plans to get a hawk that would ward off unwanted new residents in the Kent nabe.

“We have carefully researched, and after consulting with relevant stakeholders and local businesses, we believe there is currently insufficient demand for hawker services to be introduced into the town centre,” a government spokesman said.

The situation is “under review” and could include a four-month trial with birds of prey, although that idea has reportedly been dropped for now.

At first, the area also felt that an eagle surrounded by professional keepers would also make a very interesting “attraction”.

Monticcelli, too, stood his ground: “I think it’s an issue and the council should probably get the eagle.”

Other locals, like Russell Green, are doubling down on the problems the pigeons are causing as well.

“I don’t see why they can’t [a hawk] in a few days a month,” he said. “When the pigeons and seagulls know there’s a hawk here, they won’t bother to come back.”

Another man who works in the city, Connor Moon, suggested the winged visitors “don’t harm us” and blamed the poo-apalooza on the brains of the bird-feeders, inadvertently inviting them to return — with friends.
