Pope Francis Seen In Good Spirits After Stomach Surgery

Pope Francis exuded a radiant persona as he returned home after a long hospital stay.

In a display of incredible strength, he has emerged in high spirits after undergoing stomach surgery. Despite the many health challenges he faced, they are all behind him as a successful procedure now puts him on the path to a full recovery.

Pope Francis Shows Resilience After Successful Stomach Surgery

After nine days in hospital, the 86-year-old man was discharged from Gemelli Hospital. The venerable pontiff underwent a successful operation to repair an abdominal hernia, as confirmed by his medical team.

TMZ reported that the Pope received a positive statement from his surgeon, Sergio Alfieri, who stated, “The Pope is healthy. He is in better shape than ever.” Alfieri acknowledged that the head of the Catholic Church had experienced significant discomfort from previous abdominal surgery and scar tissue, which carried the potential risk of intestinal obstruction.

However, he assured the public that Pope Francis did not experience any complications during his surgery on June 7. After leaving the hospital, the bishop of Rome left in a wheelchair, greeting guests with a friendly smile and waving outside the hospital’s main entrance.

Escorted by a security detail, he was helped into a waiting car, which took him on a brief tour of Rome, allowing him to visit some of the famous landmarks before returning to the Vatican.

Despite his recent surgery, the ruler of the Vatican City State remains committed to his spiritual duties and will continue to fulfill his obligations. He is set to deliver his weekly prayer this Sunday and keep his scheduled appointments, except for a planned public meeting next Wednesday.

This well-received update comes nearly a year after rumors swirled of a possible retirement from the service due to health concerns. Speculation grew when he appeared in a wheelchair for the first time due to severe knee pain.

Adding to concerns, the Pope canceled several planned trips, including visits to South Sudan, Congo, Jordan, Israel, and Lebanon, because of his knee problems. Adding to the swirl of rumors, the former Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos Aires raised eyebrows with the unexpected decision to schedule a meeting to name a new cardinal during an atypical holiday month for Vatican citizens.

The former Titular Bishop of Auca intends to appoint 21 new cardinals during the city’s usually quieter summer period. Notably, 16 of these cardinals will be under the age of 80, making them potential successors should the Pope consider stepping down.

Pope Francis Awards King Charles III With Holy Relics Ahead of Historic Coronation

In April, before the important event, The Blast reported that the ruler of the Vatican City State presented the King with two precious pieces of wood believed to be related to Jesus Christ himself.

The historic Cross of Wales, which will lead the coronation procession at Westminster Abbey in London, received a special blessing from the Most Reverend Andrew John, Archbishop of Wales. The solemn ceremony took place at Holy Trinity Church in Llandudno on April 19.

As part of the blessing, two pieces of wood said to be from the original cross Jesus was crucified on, were added to the Welsh Cross. Given by former Priest Cardinal San Roberto Bellarmin as a “personal coronation gift” to the King, two fragments measuring approximately 0.2 and 0.4 inches were carefully placed in the center of the Welsh Cross, adorning its center.

Created in 2020 by the renowned Company of Goldsmiths in London, the King commissioned a commemorative cross to mark the 100th anniversary of the Church in Wales. Reflecting his love of the environment, it is carefully crafted from recycled silver ingots, combining durian wood and Welsh slate.

Adding to its significance, during his maiden visit to the Goldsmiths in November 2022, King Charles had the privilege of adorning the cross with his mark, the “Mark of the King,” represented by a tiger’s head. On the back of the cross are engraved the immortal words, “Rejoice. Keep the faith. Do the little things.”
