Portland kids escape from stolen car after 10-minute nightmare, flag down good Samaritan for help

Two Portland children got away when a woman hijacked their father’s vehicle for a 10-minute joy ride.

Iosha Dashae Millage, 33, is accused of jumping into an idling car while her father sped into a store on Jan. 22, leaving his two children, ages 9 and 11, alone, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

The unidentified father suffered a sprained finger when he tried to stop Millage from driving with his children.

“I rushed over to try to stop him … but as I was holding the door, he took off,” the father told KGW8. “I wasn’t fast enough to get him out of the car.”

The brave brothers jumped out of the vehicle when it stopped at a traffic light and hit a good Samaritan who called 911.

Officers acted quickly after receiving the call at 2:46 p.m., eventually locating the children and bringing them back to safety with their families.

A short time later, a local deputy alerted other officers after seeing Millage in the stolen vehicle traveling on the interstate in North Portland.

When police hawked Millage to stop him from driving any further, he ignored authorities and kept driving — prompting a chase along the interstate.

“A pursuit was initiated that moved northbound onto I-5 and into Washington state,” police said in a statement.

Millage was booked into the Clark County Jail and faces multiple charges of attempted eluding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and fugitive from justice

Oregon ranked as the fourth highest state in motor vehicle theft with a rate of 551 per 100,000 people in 2022, according to data tracked by the FBI.

There were 10,800 stolen vehicles reported in 2022 alone in Portland, but that has since dropped to 7,000-plus cars reported stolen in 2023, the Portland Police Bureau tracks.

“Once the extradition process is complete, Millage will be transported to Multnomah County where additional charges may be filed,” police said.

The Portland Police Bureau said they are continuing the investigation.
