Portuguese drivers lost patience with climate activists blocking busy highways during Tuesday morning’s rush hour traffic and took matters into their own hands.
According to the Portuguese Resident, activists from a group called Climáximo, sat down on Lisbon’s Segunda Circular highway to protest the energy company near Galp.
Two protesters were also hanging from a cable on a pedestrian bridge overlooking the highway.
However, the protest reportedly ended after just a few minutes when frustrated drivers decided to move the activists themselves.
A viral video showed a car honking at the activists before about a dozen drivers got out of their vehicles and quickly dragged the small group off the road.
The video was shared by “End Wokeness” on X, who said, “Climate activists try to block highways in Portugal. Drivers quickly end it. Here’s how.”
The video got a strong reaction and more than 6 million views as of Wednesday morning.
Climáximo also shared more complete video protest against X.

The climate activist group describes itself as an “anticapitalist” climate justice collective based in Lisbon.
It accused companies like Galp of “mass murder.”
Residents of Portugal reported that nine activists were arrested.
However, a Portuguese news channel reported that the group staged a new protest Wednesday morning.
A Climaximo activist told SIC notification that they did not feel their demonstration was causing public disorder.

“Public disorder occurs when there are no services to serve people in Portugal, when there is no housing, when there is no insulation of houses,” he told the newspaper.
The group believes governments and corporations around the world have “declared war on humanity and the planet” in a “planned and coordinated act of terrorism.”
“They are now killing thousands of people, throwing away tens of millions, burning them alive, drowning them. They are now condemning millions of people to the gas chamber, only this time, the gas is a greenhouse gas and the chamber is the entire planet. This is called climate damage and it is a planned and coordinated act of terrorism,” the activists claimed on their website.
The group’s disruptive tactics are similar to those used by UK-based climate activists Extinction Rebellion.
Thousands of radical climate activists from Extinction Rebellion, Greenpeace, and other groups, blocked Dutch highways last month to protest billions of Euros in government subsidies for the fossil fuel industry.
