On Thursday, January 19, the Santa Fe District Attorney’s office will decide whether actor Alec Baldwin or anyone on the set of “Rust” will be criminally charged in the death of Halyna Hutchins.
The cinematographer was killed on the set of a Western on October 26, 2021, at Bonanza Creek Ranch. While rehearsing the scene, the gun Baldwin was holding went off, although he later insisted he did not pull the trigger. The bullet killed Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
Although the wrongful death suit filed by the Hutchins family was filed in February, it was settled last October. Tomorrow, the public will finally find out if Alec Baldwin or anyone on the “Rust” set or production team will face criminal charges in Halyna’s death.

Spokeswoman Heather Brewer released a statement Wednesday revealing that a decision will be made tomorrow from Mary Carmack-Altwies and special prosecutor Andrea Reeb, via Deadline.
“Regardless of the District Attorney’s decision, the announcement will be a solemn event, made in a manner consistent with the office’s commitment to uphold the integrity of the judicial process and respect victims’ families,” Brewer said on Wednesday, January 18.

The police investigation into Hutchins’ death, aided by the FBI, was finally completed in October 2022 and left to the District Attorney’s office to make a final decision on who – if anyone – will be charged in Hutchins’ death.
Even before the report was hidden, however, Mary Carmack-Altwies had sent a letter to the state asking for $635,000 to prosecute four individuals; however, he only received $317,750.

Baldwin continues to insist that he has no idea how a live bullet ended up on the film set, or in the gun he was holding while rehearsing that day’s scene.
It’s possible that assistant director Dave Halls, shield Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, and shield mentor Seth Kenney, among others, could also be charged in the shooting.

In December, less than two months after the fatal shooting, Alec Baldwin sat down with news anchor George Stephanopoulos to talk about the shooting during an ABC News special “Alec Baldwin Unscripted.” The hour-long special saw the “30 Rock” actor explain what happened from his perspective.
Baldwin said that they were conducting a “marking exercise” that caused him to adjust the position of the gun. He admitted to pulling back the hammer of the gun and cocking the weapon but insisted that he never pulled the trigger.

“I’m holding the gun. I go, ‘Can you see it? Can you see that? Can you see it?’ ” he said. “And then I released the hammer of the gun, and the gun went off.”
At the time, the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the Hutchins family had not yet begun. However, Baldwin is already anxious for the investigation to be completed. “I guess I can’t wait for the process to end,” he said. “I want to … say that I will do my best to undo what happened.”

That being said, the “Beetlejuice” actor insisted that he had nothing to do with Hutchins’ death and felt that others were to blame for his death. “Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who it is,” Baldwin told Stephanopoulos in the interview. “But I know it’s not me.”
It’s understandable that Baldwin tried to distance himself from the “Rust” tragedy. His wife, Hilaria Baldwin, recently welcomed their seventh child – his eighth – last September. Additionally, the 27-year-old daughter he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger, Ireland Baldwin, announced that she was pregnant on New Year’s Eve.
MEGAAlso on Wednesday, Ireland spoke about the struggles she faced as a first-time mother. “It’s hard not being really close to family because they live so far away or are so stupid that I don’t want to do anything,” she wrote in a lengthy Instagram post.
“This pain is HARD. And you’re not alone if you feel the same way. And it’s okay to be REAL and post a highlight reel. It’s okay to be happy and sad at the same time,” she wrote in the caption. “I’m grateful but I’m struggling and that’s okay.”
