Powerball $842 million jackpot-winning ticket sold

What a way to ring in the New Year!

A lucky Powerball ticket holder in Michigan won an estimated $842 million jackpot on Monday night, according to the lottery’s website.

The winning numbers are 12, 21, 42, 44, 49 with a red Powerball 1.

The drawing marks the first time the Powerball jackpot has been won in 2024 — and the first since Oct. 11. when a California ticket holder won the second largest prize in the game’s history.

The ticket holder won the $1.76 billion prize at Midway Market & Liquors in Frazier Park, Calif., a convenience store located 75 miles north of Los Angeles.

The identity of the winner remains anonymous, but it is believed to be a local resident who visits the store “religiously” to play the lottery, a store employee claimed.

The odds of winning the Powerball top prize are an astronomical 1 in 292,201,338.

California has become a hotbed for lottery jackpot winners.

The top four prizes were either won or shared by Powerball players in the Golden State, highlighted by Edwin Castro’s record-breaking win in 2022.

Castro has been living the life of luxury after getting a $2.07 billion bounty — then settling for a lump sum payment of $997.6 million.

He focused on building his real estate portfolio, buying three California mansions totaling $76 million as well as luxury vacations.

After winning, the 31-year-old Los Angeles resident “disappeared” from social media and took some friends on vacation to Fiji for a few weeks
