Powerball jackpot swells to $810 million for New Year’s Day drawing

Ring in the New Year with a chance to take home some cash!

Monday night’s Powerball jackpot drawing has grown to $810 million — the fifth largest in the game’s history, according to the lottery.

The one-time cash payment now totals $408.9 million. Drawing will be held at 10:59pm ET.

A huge jackpot has grown after 34 drawings ran without a winner.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, the lottery estimates.

Although no one took home the final jackpot in 2023, five people won $1 million. The tickets were sold in Colorado, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Two people from Texas and West Virginia won $2 million each, 67 won $50,000 prizes, and 20 won $200,000 prizes, according to the lottery.

The last jackpot was won on October 11 for $1.765 billion in California. It is the biggest prize of the year.

It was sold at Midway Market & Liquors in Frazier Park, where the unidentified winner is believed to be a local who plays the lottery religiously.

The biggest prize ever was won on November 7, 2022 in California for $2.04 billion, according to the lottery.

Edwin Castro, 31, won the jackpot and took his friends on a luxury trip to Fiji with the proceeds. Castro took home a life-changing $997.6 million after he chose the lump sum payment option.
