He started his career as an assistant director for the Marathi drama Premachi Goshta. He has worked as an assistant director for many Marathi plays including Adhantar, Nandee, Magna Talyakathi, Ranangan, Abhas, and Altan Paltan.

- In an interview, Prasad Oak spoke about his dream project Chandramukhi which took eighteen years to realize. He said,
I would always tell my younger self – You should have started instruction earlier. It was my dream to make my directorial debut with Chandramukhi, it took Vishwas Patil 15 years to give me the rights to remake his novel. He knew me as an actor but he wasn’t sure about my ability to direct. He hesitated. After Hirkani (film Oak also directed), he gave me the rights in December 2019. Chandramukhi has been my passion for 18 years and ‘my biggest dream came true.
