Prasanth Nair is an Indian IAS (Indian Administrative Service) Officer and film director. He is known for his experimental initiatives for poverty alleviation and urban administration such as “Kozhikode Kasihan,” “Operation Sulaimani” and “Savarigiri” in Kozhikode.

Prasanth Nair was born as private secretary to KJ Alphons, Minister of State for Tourism (age 33; as on 2019) in Thalassery in Kannur District of Kerala. He spent his childhood in Thiruvananthapuram. He attended Loyola School Thiruvananthapuram. Nair graduated in law from Thiruvananthapuram Government Law College, University of Kerala. As a child, he wanted to be a cinematographer but when he left to further his studies, he began to prepare for public service. In 2006, he secured #AIR 4 in UPSC exam and was in Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from Kerala cadre.

Career
After qualifying the civil service examination, Prasanth became an IAS (Indian Administrative Service) Officer of Kerala cadre in 2006. He was appointed as the Collector of Kozhikode, Kerala. Nair has served in various capacities in various sectors including Taxation, Tourism, Water Supply, Roads and Skill Development. He has led two World Bank projects namely, “KSTP” and “Jalandhini.” He won public acclaim after he took a new initiative to eradicate poverty in Kozhikode. He launched several programs during his tenure such as Tere Mere Beach Mein, a project launched to handle waste management at Kozhikode Beach; Operation Sulaimani, a project aimed at addressing hunger in urban areas; and Yo Appooppa, a program launched to improve the quality of life of senior citizens and women. Nair also launched “Kozhikode Kasih Sayang” which is a social initiative to help institutions such as children’s homes, old people’s homes, mental health centers and palliative care centers. Soon he earned the title “Bro Collector.”
In November 2017, Nair was appointed as private secretary to KJ Alphons, Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge) for 5 years. However, his appointment was less than a year due to differences of opinion with the minister. He also served as secretary to the then Home Minister, Ramesh Chennaithala.
In addition to his career as a civil servant, Prashant has acted in Ajay Devaloka’s film “Who.” He has also directed a short film titled “Daivakanam” which had its World Premiere at the 71st Cannes Film Festival.

Controversy
Prasanth Nair got into controversy when the district Congress leader stated that Nair was on social media but not taking phone calls. Later, Nair during an interview said- “Putting a post on Facebook takes only five minutes. Just because my profile picture keeps smiling at you 24×7, doesn’t mean I sit there all the time. Second, I don’t chat with my girlfriend. People are communicating with me and solving their problems through this medium. And finally, Facebook and Twitter are additional media for the citizen interface.

- When Nair was posted as collector in Kohzikode, he came to know that the menu at the Calicut Kuthiravattom Mental Health Center remained the same since 1971. So he asked hotel and restaurant associations and traders to come forward for the cause and succeeded. to serve them puttu for the first day.
- Prasanth is also proficient in writing in English and Malayalam. He has also published various articles in Manorama, Malayala, Kerala Kaumudi, Mathrubhumi, and Malayalam Vaarika.
