Pregnant woman, 2 sons die of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning in camper

A pregnant Kansas woman and her two sons were found dead from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning in their tent at a motocross track.

Deputies from the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Saturday at Inman Motocross, home of the Kansas Motocross Championship Series.

“Members of the Inman Fire Department and McPherson EMS arrived at the scene and confirmed that the three individuals were deceased,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The three victims were identified by their families as Felicia Richey, who was pregnant, and her sons Tison and Bentley, KCRG reported.

The age of the boys is not immediate.

They are survived by husband and father Jason Richey, a pro motocross racer, and a 3-year-old son and younger brother, according to the outlet.

“Today we received word that our family friend Jason Richey lost his wife and 2 children suddenly to carbon monoxide poisoning this morning,” said a GoFundMe account set up by loved ones.

“Jason and Felicia are also expecting a new little one. We ask for your prayers, support and love as she and her 3-year-old son go through this terrible time,” he added.

Jason was interviewed in 2019 by KSN-TV when he lost all his gear in a fire.

On the news of Saturday’s tragedy, Inman Motocross Inc. postponed the eighth round of the Kansas Motocross Championship Series, which it hosted, the Kansas City Star reported.

“Today we hug our loved ones even tighter and say I love you extra time,” Inman Motocross said on Facebook. “Our hearts go out to the family as they work through this time. Thank you all for your understanding at this time and patience.”

As of Tuesday morning, a GoFundMe page had raised more than $40,000 for the affected families.

The death is still under investigation.
