Prince Harry is mourning the death of his beloved grandmother and Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen died on Thursday, September 8, at Balmoral at the age of 96 after a successful 70-year reign as monarch of the British Empire.

Three days after the king’s passing, his grandson Prince Harry broke his silence with a heartfelt tribute posted on Archewell’s website. The Duke of Sussex shared a beautiful black-and-white photo of him and Her Majesty gazing at each other and enjoying a laugh.

“In celebrating the life of my grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen—and in mourning her loss—we are all reminded of the guiding compass she provided to so many in her commitment to service and duty,” Harry began his statement. He continued, stating that Queen Elizabeth II is “globally admired and respected.”
Harry praised the Queen’s “unwavering grace and dignity”, which was evident throughout her life and even now in her death. The beloved monarch’s fourth grandchild later urged fans of the Royal family to “equal to the words she spoke after the death of her husband, Prince Philip, words that can bring comfort to us all now: “Life, of course, consists of last partings as well as first meetings .”

The Duke of Sussex then went personal with the tribute, recalling a heartbreaking first meeting with his late grandmother. He wrote, “Grandma, while this final farewell brings great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first encounters—from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to first you meet your beloved wife and hug your beloved grandchildren.”
Harry stated that he “cherishes” those special intimate moments with the Queen and everyone else in between. He continued, “You have been greatly missed, not only by us, but by the whole world.”

The 37-year-old did not fail to recognize his father, formerly known as Prince Charles, who is now the King of England. He wrote, “And as for the first meeting, we now honor my father in his new role as King Charles III.”

On Thursday morning, after news of Queen Elizabeth’s faltering health hit the headlines, Prince Harry, who is in Europe with his wife Meghan Markle, traveled to Scotland to join his grandmother in her final hours. However, he didn’t make it to her bedside before she passed out.
