Buckingham Palace announced the news of the king’s cancer diagnosis in a statement stating that Charles will take a break from official duties. They also emphasized that King’s cancer diagnosis was not linked to recent surgery for an “enlarged prostate.”

“During a recent procedure at The King’s hospital for a benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the palace statement said.

“His Majesty has today started a periodic treatment schedule, during which he was advised by doctors to postpone the tasks facing the public. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to carry out state government affairs and official paperwork as usual,” he continued.

They stated that King Charles “is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains completely positive about his treatment and hopes to return to full public duties as soon as possible.”

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to avoid speculation and in the hope that it will help the common understanding for all people around the world who are affected by cancer,” the statement said.

In the meantime, the type of cancer the king is suffering from has not yet been revealed.
