According to Daily Mail, Harry and Meghan’s upcoming Netflix project has suffered a significant setback due to the ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike.

It comes after contract negotiations between Hollywood stakeholders – actors union Sag-Aftra, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers – reached an impasse last Friday.

As a result, more than 150,000 actors, including Hilary Duff, Bob Odenkirk and Kevin Bacon, have gone on strike across the country, joining more than 11,000 members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) who began a strike in May.

According to sources, the current situation will make it “difficult” for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to proceed with their proposed project in partnership with the streaming giant.

The couple is not the only one affected, as other actors are also facing restrictions for filming new projects and cannot participate in promotional activities.

One of Harry and Meghan’s projects, reportedly affected by the strike, is a documentary about humanitarian issues in South Africa, which will see them meet the local community.

The pair spoke with Netflix about the project, but it appears that all has been put on hold pending the resolution of the strike.

It remains to be seen what humanitarian issues the project will focus on, as neither the Sussexes nor the streaming giant have made any announcements.

However, a recent source told Sunday Mirror that an important part will see the pair share a “medical education” in the village they visit.

follow Daily Mail, the source said, “Meghan is very keen to share information about safe childbirth with the women she meets.”

Harry and Meghan previously debuted a six-part documentary, “Harry & Meghan,” as part of their $100 million partnership between their Archewell productions and Netflix.

The show gives a never-before-seen glimpse into the couple’s love story. Also, it includes some bombshells about their strained relationship with the royals before quitting The Firm in 2020.

After debuting on the streaming platform, “Harry & Meghan” became Netflix’s biggest debut and the second-highest documentary debut. It was recently nominated for a Hollywood Critics Award in the Best Streaming Nonfiction category, though it missed out on an Emmy nod despite being expected to get one.

Harry and Meghan’s deal with the streaming giant has also spawned a second production, “Live to Lead,” which focuses on global influencers and leaders sharing their inspirational stories. A third show, “Heart of Invictus,” will debut later this year and centers on the lives of physically challenged service members participating in the Invictus Games.

Netflix And The Sussexes Will Continue To Work Together

Speculation that Netflix might want to end their relationship with the Sussexes arose recently after the couple ended their Spotify deal.

Reports at the time claimed that Spotify opted to end it all because the pair’s podcast series, “Archetypes,” which only produced 13 hours of content, wasn’t living up to its potential.

“Even though ‘Archetypes’ did well and won a few awards, when you do a deal like this, to have only one series over that period is not good,” the insider said, according to Page Six.

However, Netflix put the rumors to rest in a statement in which they expressed their intention to continue their working relationship with Meghan and Harry, per Many people.

“We value our partnership with Archewell Productions…. we will continue to work together on a number of projects, including the upcoming documentary series Heart of Invictus,” read a statement from a Netflix representative.
