The Duke of Sussex paid a moving tribute to his mother, Princess Diana, ahead of the 25th anniversary of her death at the ISPS Handa Sentebale Polo Cup yesterday. She explained how she plans to reflect on Diana’s legacy for her 25th birthday, adding that she hopes her children, Archie and Lilibet, will get to know their grandmother.

“My dear friend Prince Seeiso and I founded Sentebale 16 years ago in honor of our mother, with the mission to support many of the most vulnerable young people on the planet – and to give them care and help them thrive,” he said (per News Week).

She continued, “I want it to be a day filled with memories of her incredible work and her love for how she does it. I want it to be a day to share my mother’s spirit with my family, with my children, who I I hope to meet her . Every day, I hope to make him proud.”

Speaking at the charity event, Harry admitted that the charity was named after Lesotho’s “forget-me-not” flower and that his mother “will certainly never be forgotten.”

“In Sesotho, Basotho – the word Sentebale means ‘don’t forget me.’ Next week is the 25th anniversary of my mother’s death, and she will certainly never be forgotten. I want it to be a day full of memories of her incredible work and love for how she did it.”

He also promised to honor his mother by continuing his work. “She was tireless in her work to support and demean those suffering from HIV/AIDS. I hope we can remember my mother’s legacy by recommitting ourselves to those we serve, whoever and wherever.”

He concluded, “For Sentebale, our commitment is to end HIV and provide meaningful care and support for children and young people whose lives have been affected by this disease. Because they too will not be forgotten.”

This honor follows other honors he has made this year. In a speech to the United Nations, Prince Harry spoke about a treasured photograph depicting a meeting between his late mother and former South African President Nelson Mandela.

Princess Diana Dies Following Horrific Car Accident

The princess was tragically killed as a result of injuries she sustained in a high-speed motorcycle accident while in a Paris tunnel on August 31, 1997.

According to BBC, the car was said to be traveling at about 60 miles per hour and crashed into a pole on the underpass. Per The Independent, the princess was still alive at the time of the crash. He was taken to the Pitié Salpêtrière hospital, where he eventually died as a result of the accident.

Her boyfriend Dodi Fayed and car driver Henri Paul also lost their lives with her. Only one person survived the crash, Fayed’s bodyguard, Trevor Rees Jones, who was in a coma for about ten days.
