Prince William expects his ‘control’ over monarchy to grow — likely leading to clashes with King Charles

Prince William expects his “influence and control” over Britain’s royal family to increase as his father, King Charles III, ages – which could lead to family drama, according to a report.

Friends of William, 41, told the Daily Beast about the heir’s expectations of his role. However, the source added that it was likely to lead to a fight with 75-year-old Charles, who is “allergic to anyone telling him what to do.”

The prince’s more informal court is also drastically different from Charles’s reserve operation, and the two have little day-to-day interaction beyond exchanging diary dates, a former palace employee who worked for both told the outlet.

“William and [his wife] Kate [Middleton] will do things like give you two weeks off if your father dies, while Charles’ office has a more workaholic atmosphere,” the source said.

The internal power struggle is not expected to be a public spectacle, however, with insiders telling the outlet William will eventually “respect” his father’s wishes – unlike his estranged and rebellious younger brother Harry, who “won’t do as [he] have been told.”

Despite the different professional styles of father and son, the pair have united ranks since Charles was crowned in the spring, following the death of long-reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II last year.

However, last month William appeared to have overshadowed his father when he boasted about taking his charity work “one step further” than the previous House of Winsdor.

“Instead of just being a patron, I want to do more, I actually want to build houses, I want to provide them with mental support, all the jobs and education they might need,” he told reporters about his efforts to fight homelessness.

Omid Scobie’s new book “Endgame” also reports that William wants to “make sure his own image is no longer affected by the ‘bad decisions’ made by [his father]” following Harry’s abrogation of royal duties and Prince Andrew’s scandalous relationship with prolific pedophile Jeffery Epstein.

William is expected to sit on the throne longer than his father and sees Charles’ era as a “transition,” the book said.

Charles and Williams’ respective courts were now “a nest of competing agendas and different ideas about how to modernize … behind closed doors, the King and Prince of Wales adopted very different approaches,” Scobie wrote.

“There is rarely a moment where [Charles] stepped on his mother’s toes … but different from William. He is eager to make himself his own person … He does not give his father the same space that Charles did with the late Queen Elizabeth. No time for that,” the book says.

Meanwhile, friends of Charles told the Daily Beast that he’s happy to let his son “pave his own groove,” adding, “he’s encouraged to do so, just like he is.”

“I think it’s widely seen as a productive rivalry, rather than a destructive one, because William respects his father’s ‘rank’ as head of The Firm,” the palace source reportedly said.

“Ultimately, a monarchy is a hierarchical structure based on military principles, and when push comes to shove, you have to obey orders from your superiors. That is what William and Kate understand, and Harry and Meghan cannot accept. They will not do as they are told.”

Friends of William also dismissed speculation that the prince wanted his aging father to abdicate and hand over the reins of government at the age of 80.

Polls also show Charles’s popularity is increasing. Sixty percent of its citizens now view the king favorably — a big jump from his 35% approval rating before he ascended, a September YouGov poll found.

However, the Prince and Princess of Wales received more goodwill from the public, with their poll ratings in the mid-70s.
