Prison guard on duty when killer Danelo Cavalcante escaped has been fired

The Pennsylvania prison guard on duty when convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante climbed the wall to freedom last week has been fired, officials said.

The unidentified jail guard — an 18-year veteran — was fired Thursday, a Chester County spokeswoman confirmed to The Post.

Cavalcante, 34, has been on the lam since he escaped from the Chester County Jail, where he was serving a life sentence for murder, on August 31.

More than 400 law enforcement officers are assisting in the massive manhunt, authorities said Friday.

Cavalcante’s escape was captured by prison security cameras. Footage shows him wandering into a secluded part of the prison yard between two walls, about five feet away.

He put his hands on one wall and his feet on the other and climbed back up and onto the roof, where he busted out, the video shows.

Prison warden Howard Holland said earlier this week that the guard in the observation tower who could see Cavalcante on the roof had been placed on administrative leave.

A week before his escape, Cavalcante was sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Deborah Brandão, whom he stabbed 38 times in front of their two young children in April 2021.

He is also wanted in Brazil for a 2017 murder in that country, according to the Chester County DA’s office.

District Attorney Deb Ryan told reporters Thursday that Brandão’s family fears that their loved one’s killer is on the run. They have been given a 24-hour police detail, he said.

The killer has been spotted at least 8 times in the week since he escaped.

Authorities said Thursday he may have been spotted near Longwood Gardens, a botanical garden in the area, before noon.

A reward of up to $20,000 is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
