Cut by her Boyfriend Ashwajit Gaikwad
On December 11, 2023, Ashwajit Gaikwad and his friends allegedly invited Priya Singh to come to a party at Court Yard Hotel around 1 am in Ovla, Thane, after which she went to the hotel. According to Priya, upon arriving at the scene at about 3 am, she saw Ashwajit with another woman, reportedly identified as his wife by others. Despite Priya’s repeated attempts, Ashwajit refuses to talk to her. At the same time, his friend Romil Patil allegedly verbally abused him. When she asked Gaikwad to intervene and stop Patil from abusing her, Ashwajit allegedly responded by slapping and choking her, biting her hand, and forcefully pushing her away. Reportedly, after the attack and argument with Ashwajit and his friends, Priya Singh went to get her bag and mobile phone from her SUV when the man attacked her. According to him, they initially tried to ram an SUV (Land Rover Defender) towards him from behind near the divider. They then returned and deliberately ran over his right leg before quickly leaving the location. In an interview, he spoke about the incident and said,
As they got into the car and started moving, I realized that my phone and wallet were in the car. As soon as I reached the door of the Range Rover, I heard him (Ashwajit Gaikwad) say ‘uda de isko’ (crash it) to his driver Sagar. He accelerated immediately and I fell to the ground when I was hit by the left side of the car, after which he drove the left rear wheel over my right leg.”
As a result, he allegedly suffered injuries to his stomach, back and arm, and his right leg was amputated. He was admitted to the ICU at Infinity Hospital in Thane. Ashwajit Gaikwad, along with Romil Patil and Sagar Shelke, were booked under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving), 504 (intentional insult with intent to cause breach of peace) and others- another at Kasarvadavali police station. In an interview, while talking about the matter, he said,
I have been in a four and a half year relationship with my boyfriend. We really fell in love with each other. I didn’t know before that he was married. Later, when I found out, he told me that they (his wife and he) were not together anymore and that they had separated. He said he wants to marry me. I have lived with him for a long time. When I went to see him that night, he was with his wife. I was surprised when I went to talk to him, after that he became aggressive and we had a fight.”
In an interview, Ashwajit Gaikwad denied all the allegations made by Priya Singh and said that the entire incident was an attempt to extort money from her. He shared,
Anything depicted is not true. She (Priya Singh) is just my friend. He came drunk to a hotel where I was involved in a family function and forced me to talk to him. When I refused, he started abusing me. He even attacked my friends when they tried to intervene in the matter. When my driver, Shelke, turned my car so that he pulled over, he fell. The accident was not intentional. This is nothing, but a way to extort money from me. I have also given him money in the past and I have all the records.”
