Probe launched into American Airlines flight that allegedly had hidden camera in bathroom

A criminal investigation was launched into an American Airlines flight last weekend after a passenger reportedly claimed a hidden camera was placed in the bathroom.

The airline notified authorities of “potential criminal activity” on Flight 1441 that took off from Charlotte, North Carolina, and landed in Boston Saturday morning, Massachusetts State Police said in a news release.

A first-class passenger, who did not want to share her name, told Boston 25 that she saw a teenage girl trying to use the bathroom in the air but was initially stopped by a male flight attendant.

The employee claimed he needed to wash his hands quickly, said the passenger, who gave a copy of his boarding pass to the station to prove he was on the flight.

The girl used the restroom after the flight attendant left, he said.

Shortly after the girl finished, her mother came into the first class and spoke to another flyer.

“The mom stopped the passenger from going to the bathroom and said, ‘Wait, don’t go in there,'” the passenger told Boston 25.

As soon as the mother returned to her coach seat, the passenger asked the fellow traveler why he stopped her.

“That’s what told me it was a camera in the bathroom,” the passenger told the station.

Police came on board after the plane landed in Boston, and after several officers checked the restrooms, the male flight attendant was escorted out, the passenger said.

A Massachusetts state trooper told Charlotte-based WSOC that the incident involved “a juvenile, a flight attendant, and a cell phone.”

An investigation is being conducted by the FBI into alleged crimes that occurred while the plane was in the air, Massachusetts State Police said.

Further details were not released by authorities, although American Airlines told Boston 25 that the matter is “very serious.”

“And cooperate fully with law enforcement in their investigation, as safety and security are our highest priorities,” the airline said.

This isn’t the first strange incident American Airlines has dealt with this summer.

Dallas resident Tiffany Gomas, known for her viral “unreal” catchphrase, disrupted a flight in early July. He was later removed by airline personnel, according to police documents.
