Calling out all the underperformers.
A Tasmanian pub is so desperate for staff it has posted an appeal for applicants on Facebook – saying those with a police record or drug habit would be welcome.
“We are looking for high achievers with proven experience in high pressure environments, ideally with references from Gordon Ramsay or Heston Bloomenthal [sic].
“Actually, who are we kidding? We are desperate for staff,” a since-removed job post on Hotel Weldborough’s social media read, according to The Guardian.
“Police records? Who cares. Drug habit? Join the club. Alcohol? Don’t get me started. If I can’t find anyone before Xmas, I won’t have a business after Xmas,” the appeal concluded.
The brutally honest request was an instant hit, and was shared around 1,500 times with more than 250 comments in just two days, The Guardian said.
“Honestly, it’s humbling to see how quickly people are willing to reach out and offer help. There are some very nice people in this world,” current staff at the Weldborough Hotel wrote in an update on Sunday.

Thanks to the popularity of the job post, the team has made five offers “for variety [from] casual and potentially part-time kitchen and front of house staff,” the post continued.
The pub’s website states it offers craft beers, ciders and soft drinks as well as an exclusive Tasmanian wine list and “delicious food freshly prepared and cooked to order,” and that they support Tasmanian producers wherever possible.
However, the Weldborough Hotel is located in a remote area in the North East corner of Tasmania, south of mainland Australia.
“We are in a town of 22 people, 2 hours from Launceston and 4 hours from Hobart. We now have a crew of 10 staff from the local area to get us through the summer,” the staffer wrote.
The organization also had words for the post’s critics.

“To the person who told me the post was unprofessional and a bad look, I will take that feedback and raise you 5 new staff. Even better: come to the pub and experience the service and the food and then call us unprofessional,” the applause rang out.
As it has been inundated with calls, Weldborough has also pledged to help other applicants find similar work as there are other understaffed businesses in remote areas, the post added.
The Weldborough Hotel is located along the famous Blue Tier and Blue Derby cycle routes and offers free camping and rooms.
Welborough staff did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
