Pulse-pounding video shows Arizona cops in deadly shootout with alleged kidnapper

Dramatic new body camera video has been released of a police shootout in Arizona that ended with one gunman killed and another suspect arrested while rescuing a kidnapping victim.

The fatal incident occurred on November 13 in the parking lot of Moreno’s Mexican Grill in Scottsdale, where two men – Rene Calderon, 45, and Wyatt Edge, 43 – were inside an SUV, Arizona Family reported.

As Edge walked into the diner, undercover officers in three unmarked vehicles rushed into the lot and boxed in the SUV while a fourth police car drove up on the sidewalk to stop Calderon.

The chilling footage shows him firing a fully automatic AK-47 assault rifle at the police before they could jump out of their vehicles.

One detective fired a heavy shot through the windshield while additional rounds hit a second and third detective’s SUV.

The first detective jumped out through the passenger side and ran around the vehicle to avoid the withering flames.

“Careful! Careful! Go back!” a detective is heard yelling in the bodycam video.

“We are colliding! We are in a crossfire!” shouted another.

Video from another detective shows him being shot after getting out of his SUV and using his rifle to return fire before switching to his handgun and continuing to fire.

“Catch the victim! On the passenger side!” the second detective yelled as his partner ran around an SUV and reloaded his gun.

“How are our victims? Where are our victims?” shouted a detective during the commotion, as Calderon fired from the backseat.

“Where’s the victim!? Watch our 360!” shouted a detective.

“Someone said they had him,” replied the other.

A detective is seen on the hood of a police SUV, pointing his gun at the gunman’s broken back window.

He saw Calderon still pointing his gun at the officers.

“If he moves, he’ll get it back. Do not move!” shouted a detective. “He was wearing a (ballistic) vest. Do not move!”

The first detective then fired his gun at Calderon several more times.

After the shootout, a detective said he was wounded.

“Hey, my ear is bleeding. I don’t know if I took the lap or not,” he said.

The detective was taken to a hospital and released the same day, officials said.

A fourth detective, who punched Calderon from the front, saw the child victim flee the SUV during the gun battle and hide behind a parked vehicle.

“I am a victim! I got a victim! I got a victim!” he screamed as the victim lay on the ground.

“Thank you, friends, thank you very much! Oh my God, thank you, man,” said the relieved victim after the gruesome battle.

Despite being attacked, Calderon is still alive.

“The man is still breathing. Let’s get some medics and … get me a trauma kit real quick,” said a detective, but Calderon, who was wearing body armor, died a short time later at the scene.

Edge, a former Marine who was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in the early 2000s, was arrested inside a Mexican restaurant.

Her attorney claims she came from Texas to help a friend days before the wedding and didn’t know kidnapping was involved.

Police said the kidnap victim was not a random person the two men took on the run, adding that they had been involved in an armed robbery several weeks earlier, ABC 15 reported.
