At 1:30pm on Thursday, the Royal Family announced her death in a social media statement, which read: “The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
In the days following his passing, King Charles III was officially crowned in the country’s first televised ceremony. On Thursday, September 29, three weeks after he died, his death certificate was released, revealing his official cause of death.

The certificate was issued on September 16.
After he died, the country began a period of official mourning that ended ten days ago on Monday, September 19, which marked the day of his state funeral. The event was one of the biggest broadcast events in recent history.
