Rahul Roy was born on Friday, February 9, 1968 (age 55 years; in 2023), in Mumbai. His zodiac sign is Aquarius. He completed his schooling up to the sixth grade from St. Columbus, New Delhi. He completed his secondary schooling from The Lawrence School, Sanawar, Solan in Himachal Pradesh. Later, he completed his B. Com. from Delhi University.

Rahul Roy was born in Mumbai, and later, his family moved to New Delhi. His father Deepak Roy is a businessman in Delhi. His mother Indira Roy worked as a writer for UNICEF magazine. He has a twin brother Rohit Roy, who is 25 minutes younger than him. His maternal uncle Cory Walia is a famous name in the fashion world.

He worked with actress Pooja Bhatt in several films early in his career. There are rumors that they are dating. They are often seen together in various parties and events.

There were rumors about Rahul dating actress Manisha Koirala while filming for the Bollywood films Majhdhaar (1996) and Achanak (1998). However, he reportedly started ignoring Manisha to focus on his career, and later, the two parted ways.

He is in a serious relationship with model-turned-actress Suman Ranganathan. They dated for almost two years, and due to their work commitments, they could not give enough time to each other, which resulted in their breakup.

In 1998, he met model Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar at a party, who was previously married to actor Samir Soni. Rahul and Rajlaxmi dated for almost two years and finally got married in 2000.

After almost 14 years, the couple divorced. Reportedly, the reason behind their split was that Rajlaxmi had set up a business in Australia, and she wanted to settle there, but Rahul was not happy with her decision to move abroad. In an interview, Rahul said,

I have a lot of respect for Rani (Rajlaxmi). He didn’t meet me when I was at the peak of my career. He met me when I was sad. He really carried me on his shoulders even though he was 11 years younger. She is an amazing woman. We have an amazing relationship. He understands me. We both want to spend more time together, but with the spa and salon she does in Australia, she has to spend a lot of time there. But, on average, I go there four times a year and when he comes down he spends at least a month.”

The couple has no children. Talking about the divorce, Rahul said,

We have filed for divorce by mutual consent. Rajlaxmi will always remain a part of my life. He shared the same sentiment. His family is still my family and that’s it. I will always be there for him.”

In 2016, he was spotted with supermodel Sadhna Singh, and she is almost half his age.

In an interview, Rahul talked about Sadhna, he said,

It seems like I’ve known him for years. But we took it for granted and I treated the relationship with respect. She is an amazing girl with a head on her shoulders. I truly feel blessed. We’re still getting to know each other, so let’s see where this goes. But one thing is for sure, this relationship is to be maintained… My relationship has always been very serious… When we are ready, I will announce it in the most proud way to the whole world.”

Career

After completing his studies, he joined his father’s company in Delhi. She met fashion designer Rohit Khosla, who asked her to try modeling. Rahul started his modeling career, and within 20 days, designer and choreographer Hemant Trivedi noticed him and offered him a modeling project in Mumbai.

After seeing her picture, Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt offered her the film Aashiqui (1990). He accepted the offer, and the film turned out to be a blockbuster. He acted in the film along with actors like Anu Aggarwal and Deepak Tijori.

He has acted in many Bollywood films including Pyaar Ka Saaya (1991), Junoon (1992), Sapne Sajan Ke (1992), Naseeb (1997), and Phir Kabhi (1999).

Controversy

Once, a famous newspaper published that Rahul Roy was dating a woman twice his age. Later, it was discovered that the woman was his mother. In an interview, Rahul told this story, he said,

Once I visited Taj Hotel with a group of my friends for a party. My mother was also there with her friends. She is very pretty. When he saw me, he asked me to dance with him. The next day it made headlines. A news has been published that, Rahul Roy was caught dancing with an old lady last night.”

While he was shooting for a fight sequence for ‘Jab Jab Dil Mile’ (1994), the brakes of his jeep jammed, and he lost control. He accidentally hit a man who was watching the filming of the movie. Later, a complaint was filed against Rahul Roy. In an interview, Rahul said,

I don’t know, the guy who sold this thing, was sitting watching the filming even though the production staff had cleared the area. He shouldn’t be there. And unfortunately, the off-road jeep hit him and he broke his femur. But the publisher has taken care of it.”

In 1993, while he was shooting for the film ‘Gumrah’ in Mauritius, a local newspaper associated him with a well-known businessman named Riyazat Hussain. Later, director Yash Johar mediated the whole matter and settled the situation.

At the age of 11, after Rahul’s parents separated, he moved to a boarding school in Himachal Pradesh with his older brother, Rohit Roy. Actor Sanjay Dutt was his senior at the school, while actress Pooja Bedi was his junior.

After reading an article my mother wrote for a fashion glossy, Mahesh Bhatt sahab expressed a desire to meet her. That’s when he saw my picture and asked if I wanted to work in a Hindi film. So, I’ll take you to see Bhatt sahab once. He told me to come and meet him at his Juhu house. When I met him, he narrated a line about the film (Aashqui)…and I was convinced to do it.

The popularity of his debut film Aashiqui (1990) can be judged by the fact that after its release, the film continued to stay at home for nearly six months. Rahul became very popular after the film released, and he is still known as the ‘original Aashiqui boy.’ At that time, her hairstyle became a trendsetter in India.
