Rajni Bala was born in 1987 (age 38 years; in 2022). He hails from Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir and holds a B.Ed degree.

Career

After completing his education, Rajni was appointed as a government school teacher in J&K. She and her husband were posted in two different schools in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir in 2009. Since 2017, she has been working in the Government High School in Gopal Pora. However, the settlement area was not safe, and Rajni, along with her husband, repeatedly requested the authorities to move them to a safer area.

Death

On 31 May 2022, Rajni goes to school with her husband and daughter, who leave after dropping her off. Rajni walks towards the main entrance of the school, where he is shot in the head by a terrorist.

This was the seventh targeted terrorist attack on Hindu civilians in Jammu and Kashmir in May 2022. It was Rajni’s last day at the school as their evacuation request was received the night before the attack. The reporter spoke to her devastated husband. He said,

If the administration had moved him to a safer place earlier, he might still be alive today. I cursed my fate. Just a day after his transfer, he was killed by terrorists.’
