Ramesh Babu is an Indian film producer and former actor. He is the elder brother of famous South Indian actor Mahesh Babu. Ramesh died of a liver-related illness on January 8, 2022.

Ramesh Babu aka Ghattamaneni Ramesh Babu was born on Wednesday, 13 October 1965 (age 56 years; at death) in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. His hometown is Burripalem, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. His father, Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna, is a former actor, director, and producer. His mother’s name is Indira Devi. His stepmother, Vijaya Nirmala, was an actress, who died in 2019.
His younger brother, Mahesh Babu, is an actor who is married to Indian actress Namrata Shirodkar. He has three younger sisters Manjula Ghattamaneni (actress and producer), Padmavathi, and Priyadarshini. His half-brother, Naresh Babu (younger), is also an actor.

He is married to Mrudula. He has two children, a son named Jaya Krishna Ghattamaneni, and a daughter named Bharathi Ghattamaneni.
Career
As a Child Actor
In 1974, he started his career as a child actor with the Telugu film ‘Alluri Seetarama Telugu’ where he played the role of young Alluri Seetaramaraju.
He later acted in Telugu films ‘Dongalaku Donga’ (1977), ‘Manushulu Chesina Dongalu’ (1977), and ‘Annadammula Saval’ (1978). At the age of 14, Ramesh, along with his younger brother Mahesh, appeared in the Telugu film ‘Needa.’
As the main actor
After taking a break from acting, he played the lead role of Samraat in the Telugu film ‘Samraat’ (1987).
He later acted in various Telugu films such as ‘Bazaar Rowdy’ (1988), ‘Mugguru Kodukulu’ (1988), ‘Krishna Gari Abbayi’ (1989), and ‘Kaliyuga Abhimanyudu’ (1990). After appearing in the Telugu film ‘Encounter’ in 1997, he quit acting and ventured into film production.
As Publisher
Ramesh Babu worked as an executive producer in the Hindi film ‘Sooryavansham’ (1999). Later, he started a film production company ‘Krishna Productions Private Limited’ in Hyderabad, Telangana, after his father’s name. Some Telugu films produced by Ramesh Babu are ‘Arjun’ (2004), ‘Athidhi’ (2007), ‘Dookudu’ (2011), and ‘Aagadu’ (2014).
Death
On January 8, 2022, he breathed his last at AIG Hospital, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. He was suffering from a long-term liver-related illness. Ramesh Babu’s film production company ‘GMB Entertainment’ confirmed the news of his death via Twitter. The tweet read,
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ghattamaneni Ramesh Babu garu. He will live on in our hearts forever. Given the current situation, we ask all those who say goodbye to observe the Covid-19 norms and avoid congregating at the crematorium.”
Various South Indian celebrities shared their grief over his death. Veteran South Indian actor Chiranjeevi tweeted,
Condolences to Shri Krishna garu, @urstrulyMahesh and all family members. May the Almighty give strength to the family to face the tragic loss.”
Actor Sai Dharam Tej tweeted,
